Your Winter Weekend Adventure

There are federal holidays in January and February allowing for long weekend get-aways! Recharge with a mini vacation! Here's what we suggest for your 3-day winter weekend in Southern West Virginia. Please double check availability, ticket prices, and guidelines of all your planned activities.

Day 1, Arrival and Check-in. Check-in as early as 2pm. Take your bags in. Call The Market for a brick oven pizza. Walk down the block to grab your early dinner. If you want to make the most of every minute of your vacation – Winterplace Ski Resort has night skiing and tubing until 9pm. Allow about an hour to drive. If you’d rather not venture quite as far, The Ritz Theatre is currently showing free movies on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Day 2, Sleep in and fuel up with your complimentary breakfast. Make sure everyone has comfortable walking shoes and warm clothes. This morning take River Road to Sandstone Falls. This is the widest waterfall on the New River. A sturdy boardwalk offers easy access to the waterfall and lots of photo ops for your morning adventure.

Spend the afternoon in town. Visit Explore Summers County for information on a walking tour of town. There are several stores within walking distance in the Historic District - Boho, Detra's Boutique, Pinchin Pennies, Otter & Oak, Hinton Floral, Grandma's House Antiques, and Big Four Drug Store & Soda Fountain.

Day 3, Head to Winterplace Ski Resort in Ghent WV for a day on the slopes!

Day 4, Check out is at 11 am, but you can still make the most of the day. Visit Grandview State Park Overlook in Grandview, WV. Enjoy the view at the main overlook and head home or spend a little more time looking around. There are hiking trails for all experience levels. Picnic tables and a playground are close to the main parking area.

And if this isn’t quite what you had in mind, we’ve compiled a list of things to do in the area. We’d love to see pictures of your adventures. Please tag us on social media with #guesthousewv.
